It does have one big drawback for me: no Outlook. When I retire, ****
Windows. I just repaired a computer with Windows 7 that wouldn't boot
because Windows became unbootable. Once I installed Windows again, no
problem other than the hours it took to do it so I know it was Windows,
not hardware. With a laptop, you gotta clean off all the crapware, do
three hours of Updates, etc, etc. No, they hadn't made an image and a
repair install was greyed out. Fortunately, they are good at backing up
data manually. If one has a / home and swap file in separate partitions,
reinstalling Linux is a breeze in comparison. Less than an hour.

Outlook users like me can read emails sent by any mail clients; Never
heard of such ridiculous reason to use Windows!

The fact of the matter is people are using Windows because it is by far
the best OS with most commercial applications available for it. People
aren't wasting their time developing anything for Linux. Linux sucks
when it comes to desktop OS. For servers and websites it is the best
but for general day to day use, windows can't be beaten.

I have still got to meet somebody who is using Linux for general day to
work and business on a desktop. I have tried very hard but never come
across anybody yet. Wonder who is actually using them? In the UK as
far as I can see. Perhaps in countries like Brazil?

Now you have. Only Outlook renders HTML properly, unlike Thunderbird
where the receiver will get the message in a different font and
different font size than what you used to create the message.

I've met a lot of Linux users and *none* of them were like that.
Governments use it. Banks use it. You are stuck in a stereotype that I
guess makes you think you're superior because you use Windows and
besmirch Linux.

I used both. I started with Slackware, moved to Redhat, adopted
openSUSE, discovered Ubuntu, advocated Trisquel and so on. Every time I
used it, however, I encountered disgusting bugs which soured the
experience for me. In every era, what Linux provided me with was
tremendously inferior to what Windows was offering at the time. In
fact,
I was still willing to transform every one of my computers to Linux
systems as recently as last summer. Nevertheless, I wasn't willing to
tolerate computers that no longer shut down, couldn't wake from sleep
and insisted on screen tearing my games. Additionally, I wasn't willing
to put up with Linux losers such as yourself calling me a liar because
I was pointing out these _widespread_ issues.

Linux is a pile of poop and no amount of your denial is going to change
that.

fact is you're too stupid to run Linux properly.

Just one question. If Linux is so great,why are you posting from Windows?

Most likely because the last update made his Linux installation unbootable.

anything to do with computers or operating systems. Until recently,
only
3 to 5 percent of my visitors were using Linux. Now it's 15 percent.

Oh, I understand very well. However, I don't care that you don't care.
The people in this newsgroup deserve better than a lying piece of poop
who advocates Linux without ever providing evidence. There's enough of
that kind of moronic behaviour in comp.os.linux.advocacy.

Don't make statements about how popular the operating system is without
at least providing evidence. In the absence of real statistics, we'll
have to believe that the true authorities are telling the truth when
they state that Linux is on 1% of the world's computers.


It does have one big drawback for me: no Outlook. When I retire, ****
Windows. I just repaired a computer with Windows 7 that wouldn't boot
because Windows became unbootable. Once I installed Windows again, no
problem other than the hours it took to do it so I know it was Windows,
not hardware. With a laptop, you gotta clean off all the crapware, do
three hours of Updates, etc, etc. No, they hadn't made an image and a
repair install was greyed out. Fortunately, they are good at backing up
data manually. If one has a / home and swap file in separate partitions,
reinstalling Linux is a breeze in comparison. Less than an hour.

If Microsoft released a new version of Windows every six months the way
Linux distributions do, you'd have the same ease of installation. They
don't, so I have to agree with you that a Linux re-installation is less
tedious. However, people who use Windows don't distro hop and have no
need to re-install every few days the way Linux users do. There's a
possibility of viruses or other malware forcing a re-installation, but
there's a possibility your next girlfriend will give you AIDS as well.
