Win7 and Norton 2010 Anti Virus
Is there any history of Norton's Anti Virus product
http://www.antivirusware.com/norton-antivirus/ interfering with Win7. I may decide to use that. I read the somewhat detailed thread on anti virus products on here recently and will also consider those. |

My personal experience, which lots of others agree with me, is that, generally, Symantec/Norton personal products are nothing but bloated and resource hungry junk, their anti virus holds the lead in that. Their corporate products are decent though. I would suggest avoiding Norton Anti Virus and use a combination of a free anti virus and free anti spyware. I use Avast and have no complaints, along with Malwareytes. http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html http://www.malwarebytes.org/ You can't beat that price. I am even considering paying for the real time protection option for Malwareytes, from what I have seen from and from reading in other newsgroups of recommendations of its real time protection option. |

I am using Avast on my present PC, but only because AVG eventually declined to support my Win98 SE. When I uninstalled AVG my OS closed down properly and it was only then that I realised that it was the cause of my machine refusing to 'Close Down'. I will consider all of your suggestions. Many thanks. |

I read the somewhat detailed thread on anti virus products on here recently and will also consider those. Personally, I would not have anything made by Norton, (Symantec), or McAfee on any machine of mine. They are both resource hogs, (Norton being the worst), and don't do anything better than some free AV programs. I got this machine last October and the first thing I did was to remove the Norton free trial and then run the removal tool to get all the crap off the machine. Download and run the Norton Removal Tool: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...05033108162039 I am using MSE, but all of these are free and do just as good a job as Norton, without being intrusive. AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download?prd=afe Do a custom installation and opt out of e-mail scanning. Avast: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html In the case of Avast, choose Custom Installation and under Resident Protection, uncheck: Internet Mail and Outlook/Exchange. Microsoft Security Essentials: http://www.microsoft.com/security_es...s/default.aspx (No e-mail scanning to worry about) -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP [Mail] Imperial Beach, CA |

Nortons is **** and has been for years. AVG free edition is a heck of a lot
better. "Emrys Davies" wrote in message ... Is there any history of Norton's Anti Virus product http://www.antivirusware.com/norton-antivirus/ interfering with Win7. I may decide to use that. I read the somewhat detailed thread on anti virus products on here recently and will also consider those. |

They suck and are expensive. |

Low resource overhead? Not in my case. I have several computers in my home network and one of the is a slightly outdate, with 512MB RAM and it started crawling when I installed MSE. I uninstalled it and everything works again. But it has no problems with other computers that I am using it on, they range from 4 GB RAM to 12GB. |

I am one greedy person when it comes to that. I abuse computers when using, have tons of applications running, listen to music in the background, running couple of server applications on top, so that's why my desktop is a brand new i7 975 3.33 MHz HP with 12 GB of ram. Don't ask me how much I spent though, :-( |
