Default "Windows XP Style" disappeared

My computer turned off (electricity problem), and when restarted, my windows
went back to the old "classic" style.

I tried to change it under "display properties/appearance", but the option
"Windows XP style" disappeared from there as well! The only option there now
is "Windows Classic style".

Any ideas?

No change. This only affects the arrangements of items in the menu, not the
graphical appearance of the taskbar, windows etc.

Read the instructions at the top.

One of these ought to do it.

187. Restore Themes Functionality

187. Right hand side
Restore Luna Theme

214. Right hand side
Windows XP Style Changes to Windows Classic

271. Stuck in Classic View? Undo Now
-----

If XP Pro you can use Group Policy...
Start | Run | Type: gpedit.msc | OK |

Navigate to

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar\
Force Classic Start Menu
Set to: Not Configured

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Desktop Themes\
Load a specific visual style file or force Windows Classic
Set to: Not Configured

"Restore Luna Theme" (on the right side of line 187) did the trick.

Thank you so much!

Hi,

the link http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm was of great help to
me also!

I had exactly the same problem and, again, "restore luna theme" did the
trick. I only want to add (for the lost user, like me) that the file
"Resources.zip" has to be extracted to the c:\windows folder and then the
"Windows XP Style" option is back again.

Thanks again for the great tip!
