Default hard drive slow

I have recently been using pinnacle studio 8 to transfer analog tapes to dvd. I got about 8 transferred then apparently screwed everything up some how. After somehow accidentally removing a font i needed for the program . I ended up reinstalling windows
xp. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled studio 8 also. Problem is that now it says the drive is to slow to capture . Before it worked fine and i made several dvds. Ive defragmented and done disk clean but still the hard drive just seems to be
way to slow. any suggestions would be deeply appreciated , i dont want to have to format the hard drive and start over when its probably something simple. thanks
