Default Windows or MSN Messenger

I can't seem to get Windows or MSN Messenger to connect
using any valid passport account. I can sign in to my msn
settings using ie, but not messenger. I looked through
previous msgs in this group, and tried a few things that
were recommended, but still no luck. Yesterday and this
AM, I was getting error msg 0x81000370. Now I am
receiving msg that the server is temporarily unavailable.
I have reset my .NET profile but messenger still doesn't
work. Now what?
