Default Device/Drive not found

We just put in a 1GB memory module into our Dell Dimension 8400 in one of two
open slots. Now our cd/dvd drives are not being recognized. Do we need to buy
another GB to make the slots parallel and would that fix the problem or do we
need to "re-flash"? I'm not sure how to do that if that is the case.
Thank you for any help you may provide!

You dont need to reflash the bios unless Dell support for your specific Tag
reccommends it
They might also mention other critical updates.
If you remove the added module is the problem cured, or have you simply
displaced some cables?

Crucial.com states in part: "Although the memory can be installed one
module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of
modules."

http://www.crucial.com/store/listpar... Dell&cat=RAM

But I doubt that alone would lose the CD/DVD drives. If you didn't pull
the ribbon cable loose from the mobo during the RAM install, it would
take two "pulls" of the power cords, or ribbon cables at the devices.
