OK, I'm committed to Windows 10 (I do have an 8.1 image just in case).

What should I do with the following directories in C:\?

$GetCurrent 250,000
$WINDOWS.~BT 1,600,000
$Windows.~WS 600,00
Windows.old 27,000,000,000
Windows10Upgrade 16,000,000

First thing to do, if you are truly committed and have no plans to
regress to your previous OS, is to run Disk Cleanup (I think that's
what it's called) which can be found in the right-click Properties
context menu in File Explorer off your C drive. That should get rid of
the saved files left over from your old OS and the upgrade. Then see
what you have left and we can deal with them at that time.

cleanmgr.exe ("Disk Cleanup")

When you start it, it will offer lame options.

Look for a button concerning "cleaning up system files".

When you click that, the window restarts and does
the space calculation again, listing your Windows.old
for deletion.

*Do not* try to delete C:\Windows.old manually.

If you wait a couple weeks, it will delete by itself.
That is one option. The time constant used to be
30 days, but for recent Win10 they changed the duration
to a some shorter number.

But on my Win10 Insider install, I use cleanmgr.exe
right after the install is finished, and clean up the
files immediately.

Cleanmgr.exe can overcome any permission issues.

The ~BT is a staging area for installs.

The ~WS is a staging area for MediaCreationTool downloads.

After you have done an upgrade install, you may
find a 3.5GB install.wim in the ~BT. If you keep
that, that is sufficient materials to build an
entire installer DVD. So if for any reason,
you thought this version of OS would be
something you'd want later, saving the install.wim
from the Source folder could come in handy.

I've made around a dozen ISO9660 files, using the
install.wim and a small powershell script.

The ~BT and ~WS might not be spotlessly clean.
There might still be around 250KB of files in
there, but they're not hurting anything.

I'm unfamiliar with this one. Maybe someone
else knows what this is for. It smells a bit
like something a tablet install would do. I have
no matching examples on my two machines here.

Keep them and back them up to 3 different USB flash drives (ideally get
three 4TB drives) as they are all very important folders!!!!

I believe there is a time period before you can remove the "old"
file. I don't know how long that is, but mine can't be removed yet.

I've never had a problem removing my C:\Windows.old
with cleanmgr. It will prompt you with "do you really
want to do this", and you just click in the affirmative.

If it gave me a hard time, it wouldn't take me long
to get rid of it. (Just don't try tossing it in the trash.
That would be a giant time-waster, and involve hair
loss. You know how efficient Explorer/Trash is.)

I like to houseclean immediately, so any gratuitous
defragmenter runs won't waste time moving around
content that is just going to be deleted.

I rely on backups for protection, so saving Windows.old
isn't really that important for my purposes.

If you are 100% sure about the upgraded Win 10 is working fine, you can
just delete them! You might need to use Admin. right to do so.

Paul provided an accurate and in-depth answer to the question. If you
read the other replies before you post, you can avoid making a fool of
yourself.
