Yes. For some reason they suddenly ditched that
name. Maybe people in the Midwest didn't cotton
to it? I don't know. I think the next name was "Modern"
UI. A typical, passive-aggressive Microsoft language
hijack. Calling it modern made everything else out of
date. And there was the world of WinRT, which I don't
think was ever defined. Lately I think they're talking
about "universal apps", but it's hard to keep track.
I suppose the idea of universal was that they run
everywhe phones, tablets, desktops... In reality
they're limited trinket apps that run in Metro on
Win8/10 desktops, because that's the only Metro
there is. (There are a limited number of tabletty things,
and the Surface, but as far as I know those are all
just full Windows OS with really bad ergonomics.)

Thanks. That looks like a useful site for any OS.
I might very well end up using Linux again. It probably
depends on how difficult it becomes to stick with
Windows, rather than how good Linux becomes.

Yep, the general consensus of the people leaving seems to be "MS went
too far now." Really, both options (barring the MS telemetry stupids)
are probably equally "good" in terms of 'an OS'.

If there's anyone here who runs WordPerfect under WINE, I'd like to hear
from them.

I've never used it myself (so I don't know what differences it has
between "Word and work-alikes"); but perhaps one of the options here may
be of interest:

The big problem is WordPerfect had a Linux version. Then MS bought into
Corel and all Corel Linux development stopped. I think this was around 2000.
I do have a copy of the Linux version of WordPerfect8. I haven't got it
working on Ubuntu 16.04. It was released in 1998. Then in 2000 WP9 for
Linux was released. Hasn't been another one sense. Notice the timing.

I already searched there and there's no listing for WordPerfect. Doesn't

Digging a little deeper, there's murmurs that the shift might not be
voluntary. Both Ars Technica and The Verge hear from unverified
sources that German retailer Metro AG might waving its legal guns and
forcing Microsoft to quiet down over a potential (if questionable)
trademark dispute.

That's strange. Maybe winehq didn't want me to find it. I did a search
for WordPerfect and the search came back with a blank results page.

Why not (try to) use the last WordPerfect for Linux? Find it (and some

It does seem a bit odd. I think I found it
by searching specifically under Gold, after
a Platinum search yilded nothing. I like
their system, though. It's well organized
and doesn't require javascript.

Honestly, I skipped right over it from 98SE to XP ... so, I didn't
really use it.

I do have that version.
What I understand is that WP8 needs a 32bit system. I'm not sure why at
this point as most 64bit systems can run 32bit apps.
I lost interest awhile back. This thread made me regain interest to a point.
Don't really need it, just like a lot of other apps, just want to see if
I can get it working. Then I'll probably remove it.

Ah. I wonder if would had liked it. It's bascially XP's classic theme.
