Other machines on home network can't see the Win10 machine

She did not set it to "Home" network (sharing only with other win10 machines). She needs to transfer terabytes of photos to/from this machine, making sneakernet NOT an option. Other machines can see the existence of this machine, but can't see its contents. This should be easy, right? It was with her previous win7 installation on that machine. What do we need to do? The question is vague. I don't know how to make it any more specific. The problem is transferring files from her netbook to her win10 desktop, which was easy with win7, requiring only that a subdirectory called c:\Shared (or whatever) be shared with "everyone" with the password. I can do that to move files to/from my windows machine USING my linux machine. The win7machine doesn't know about the linux machine, and that's the way I want it. I use linux, but I also have a win7 machine for things that don't work with linux -- tax software, Garmin express and my Canon scanner. Sharing is trivial with Win7, but NOT with win10, which is the problem. I had a sharing problem with win7 that was fixed by this. Had to do with increased security protocol. Can't tell if this will help, but might be worth a look. Open Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Lsa\ Create LMCompatibilityLevel (DWord) and set the value to 1 Is this a win7 or win10 solution? I stopped being comfy editing the registry when I switched from win95 to win2K, and I really don't want to screw up my friend's machine. -- Cheers, Bev 66666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666 666 Cthulhu for President in 2016.
