you could try to install a second messenger into a different directory
(create a new one ;example" C:\program files\MSN 7 ) and sign in with your
2nd passport. I can't gaurantee it but thats what I do with my Opera browser
(1. for research/browsing 2.nd for programs/newsgroups)

Greetings,

That won't work -- Messenger looks for itself when it starts and simply opens the run
running -- even across multiple versions.

Greetings,

Unfortunately Messenger itself doesn't provide a way to do this. However, what you can do is
use an official "polygamy" patch. One of the most popular ones is A-Patch (note it also
provides a number of other options too):

I wasnt aware you could do that, good to know..
However I successfully started messenger 7 and 8 beta at the same time. I
have only 1 passport so I logged off one as I signed into the other but you
could have them both running at the same time since msmsgs and msnmsngr have
different names and running processes. just FYI.

Hi,

MSN Messenger 7 and Windows Messenger 8 are -both- msnmsgr.exe.

But yes, you can start Windows Messenger 4.x/.x and MSN Messenger 6.x/7.x/8.x because they
are separate products that are considered different products entirely.

You're right. I was looking in the windows install directory C:\program
files\Messenger/msmsgr.exe which is probably vesion 4 or 5 , I assumed it was
v.7.

Whats this guys reason for launching two messengers anyway, couldn't he just
import or add contacts from his other passport list to save the hassle?

I use the 'personal' 'work' contact "Grouping" but I see youre logic. If I
had more friends I might want to do the same. lol

Well if you're at work, you probably don't want [some of] your friends or family messaging
you, etc.
