Default 32 Bit Mode NOT Required

| He already said that he's not familiar with
| DOS/batch and would like to avoid learning it.
|
| Then go with my other suggestion of trialing a new version of PKzip
| Windows to check if its CLI has the same commands and syntax for them as
| did the old PKzip DOS.

I guess part of the problem is that the OP
just keeps posting the same request, with no
responses to advice or updates. (What do people
do for days on end when they're waiting for answers
and not taking part in their own discussion?

In any case, you may want to reread the thread.
You're missing the issue. He has 16-bit DOS. He's
looking for a solution with minimal work, preferably
to somehow run his 16-bit DOS. Even if recent PKZip
has the same commands, he can't run it with his
16-bit program.

PKZip is also not free. It's $30 for just a basic
ZIP program. I'm guessing that's not a big seller.
There's just no reason these days to pay for a
ZIP program. And they all seem to have command
line options.

I'm guessing the OP is probably just waiting for
someone to provide a no-sweat solution while he
acclimates to the idea that there may not be one.
$30 and needing to write a new wrapper is not a
no-sweat solution, or even a reasonable one.

Good advice.

You're missing the issue. He has 16-bit DOS. He's

"I currently have Windows 7 64 bit o/s". Guessed you missed that in his
first post. He is not using a 16-bit DOS now. He never mentioned WHAT
he was using before. He doesn't want to run that. He wants to run the
16-bit application (PKzip) on Win7 x64.

Even if recent PKZip has the same commands, he can't run it with his
16-bit program.

And why, if he really does have the code, he has to recompile (unless he
want to run in a VM as already suggested by others so I didn't bother
duplicating those suggestions). He doesn't want to learn batch script.
Okay. But obviously he should know his own C++ code. Already told him
how to get free compilers.

Note the OP never said his own compiled C++ program was a 16-bit app.
He said the PKzip tools it *calls* via sys() are 16-bit apps. We don't
know the bitwidth of his own program.

"It uses DOS-based PKZip and PKUnZip utilities that
work only on 32 bit systems". Is it "it" (his program) that doesn't
"work" (no explanation) on 32-bit Windows (or using the 32-bit WOW in
Win7 x64) or is it "PKzip and PKunzip utilities" that "doesn't work"?
He specifically asked the following: " I am looking for V a 64 bit
version of these compression utilities". He never did ask how to
recompile his code from 16-bit to 32- or 64-bit.

PKZip is also not free.

Neither was it when he bought it as PKzip for DOS. He never stipulated
"free" as a requirement although OTHERS suggested freeware.

I'm guessing the OP is probably just waiting for
someone to provide a no-sweat solution while he
acclimates to the idea that there may not be one.

Yeah. He doesn't want to review his old code and doesn't want to
recompile it - if the 16-bitness restriction regards his own program.
He doesn't want to recode and recompile his program to use a different
zip tool that has a CLI. He doesn't want to buy a newer version of
PKzip (which probably still has the same CLI command syntax). He
doesn't want to use DOSbox, XPmode in Win7 (if available since we don't
which edition he has), VirtualBox (assuming he has an unfettered license
to Windows XP), or add any other software. He has not embraced any
solution. Like you said, he wants a magic bullet where he does not work
and pays nothing. That's the vibe I get from him. That, or he hasn't
made a choice yet but he hasn't indicated any are a solution acceptable
to him.
