I'm tired of having to close out several AOL windows each time I turn on my
computer. I want to get rid of all AOL stuff on my computer. I will never
use it. Here's my question: Can I go to My Computer, click on C: disk, then
Program Files, then on the AOL folder, and then delete the folder without
messing up anything else on my computer? Or is there another way I should go
about this? Thanks for any information.

1. Go to Control PanelAdd/Remove Programs. Find anything from AOL and
uninstall it properly. Do not simply delete program folders or you will
mess up your computer.

2. After you've uninstalled all the AOL software, including AIM (AOL Instant
Messenger), you will no longer get any of the AOL programs/processes
starting with Windows.

Doing that will NOT remove AOL from your computer.

Got to Control Panel, then to Add and Remove Programs. Find all the
AOL programs there.

Thanks for the quick answers. I thought that might be the case (which is
why I asked!). Just hoping it might be a faster way. So I'm off to remove
files now. Thanks for the help.

I use AOL (UK company) as my ISP.

I have operated this machine (XP Home, SP3) both with, and without, AOL
9.0VR being installed (from a clean install of Windows).

AFAICR the AOL browser has /never/ started 'automatically' on starting
my PC. I *always* have to 'Sign on' to open AOL by using a desktop
shortcut, the start menu or by right-clicking on an icon in the system
tray. There are 'Start-up settings' available from the latter (pop-up
menu) and I suspect that one may be able to enable the AOL browser to
open automatically on start-up of a computer if one wishes.

AOL, US company, is a disaster and should be avoided.

May I assume that is your opinion, 'unknown' - rather than fact. A bit
like saying that McAfee and Symantec are a disaster?

Perhaps you are right, but it would have been better (IMO) if you had
supported your statement with some facts.

Costs more than many other ISPs, Has a lot of advertising, and incompatible
in one or two areas versus other ISP's.
Why do you think their subscriptions have dropped by about six million in
the last few years?

You can't think and deduce yourself? You need facts on everything?

In the UK the cost of AOL is similar to many other ISP's. I don't mind
the advertising - sometimes even pick up on something of interest too!

I do not know how to quantify the level of subscribers - where did you
find out that fact? TIA

Dave

It is in the business news very often. They are a part of Time Warner.

What alternative do YOU use? Explain why they are a disaster.
Do you own stock in the company?
