Win XP crash with Acronis
A week ago the computer I've been using for about 2 years wouldn't boot up,
so I did an XP re-install. This is a standalone machine, with all the XP updates, and Kaspersky AV etc. I decided to backup my XP o/s, and today I installed Acronis True Image 9.0. All was fine until I tried to create a 'resue" cd - the machine immendiately crashed, rebooted, and wanted to send an error report to MS (which I did). Coming right after a lengthy re-install, that was just a lot of fun. Does anybody have any idea what might have happened? I assume an uninstall of Acronis is a good move. Are there any o/s backup programs or procedures that can be depended on for simplicity and reliability? Thnx |

I don't think acronis is the issue, I think there is a problem with your cd
drivers. "John D99" wrote: A week ago the computer I've been using for about 2 years wouldn't boot up, so I did an XP re-install. It's got to be related to your optical drive. If you have a regular installation CD for Acronis, you don't need the rescue disc as the installation CD is bootable. Are there any o/s backup programs or procedures that can be depended on for simplicity and reliability? Acronis True Image is by far the most frequently recommended in these and the other MS groups. |

Win XP crash with Acronis
You did not state what kind of reboot you had. Was it a BSOD, any error
messages or just a straight reboot. Either of these sound like driver conflicts and you might need to boot into safe mode with boot logging turned on to look at the log to see what loaded and what did not. -- Randem Systems Your Installation Specialist The Top Inno Setup Script Generator http://www.randem.com/innoscript.html "John D99" wrote in message ... You need to figure out the problems with your machine....and they are YOUR PROBLEMS, not Acronis'. |

Right click on My Computer, choose Manage, and go for the event logs. Filter out to see major errors. These should give you major clues as to the source of the problem. Coming right after a lengthy re-install, that was just a lot of fun. Does anybody have any idea what might have happened? The system possibly crashed due to a problem with the optical disk or related software. You should be able to re-create it given the information in the system logs. I assume an uninstall of Acronis is a good move. That may not be a valid assumption. Are there any o/s backup programs or procedures that can be depended on for simplicity and reliability? Yes, Acronis is one. The problem you've experienced likely isn't related to Acronis except that it occurred when you were making the CD. HTH -pk Thnx |
