Default Unable to remove dialog box

I cannot remove a dialog box that tells me I need to restart my computer.
"The computer must be restarted before updating can continue. Would you
like to start now?

I don't know what partial installation of a program has been done though, so
can't remove this box.

Thanks!
Julie

Start | Turn off computer | click on the "Click to install important updates
and then shut down" button.

What updates? These updates:

Why not just restart?

Please perform the steps I listed in your previous post and then let us know
what Operating system we are dealing with, what IE version and how much disk
space and RAM installed and if any new hardware or software installed
recently?

Thanks nass, I'll keep you informed.

I run XP, using IE 7. I believe this could have happened when I stopped an
installation of AVG spyware scanner, but not actually sure and I don't know
what my son could have installed (peer to peer?)

I have 5.6GB of memory left on C (use 500 GB separate F drive and also 1tb
external drive for music). I have 37GB of hard space left. Hope this helps.

Thank you
Julie
