Browser Icons with Links on Desktop
How can I create desktop links/icons for specific Internet browser
links? Back in the XP days, I could "Send To" or "Save As" a given browser page to the Desktop, where a new icon would be created on my Desktop that I could rename and position. I can't do that anymore with either FireFox or Chrome in Win7... Please advise. TIA --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! Antivirus protection is active. http://www.avast.com |

TIA If you go to a site using IE, just grab the icon at the left of the URL in the address bar and drag it to the desktop. Not sure if that works with FF or Chrome. If not, just use IE to create the shortcut icon. Or, you can right click on the Desktop | New | Shortcut and paste the address in. -- ~Bruce |

For the record, categorically refuse to use IE, as it's always been such a target for hackers and virii. 8{{ My browsers are FF, Chrome and Safari. Well, Bob I confirmed my instructions will work with FF and Chrome and there is still the Right Click on the Desktop option. -- ~Bruce |

article Yes it does. It does in Chrome, but it looks like they've changed it. Clicking the icon you dragged from the address bar no longer goes directly to the referenced page. Instead, it displays the url in a new frame but I have to copy/paste it to the address bar to actuall view the page. That may be the result of some setting I changed inadvertantly. |

That means what follows is in the body of your post. This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! Have you deliberately chosen to be a spamming affiliate of Avast? I use it, too, but I don't spam for them. Either configure their mail module to NOT append their fake spam signature or uninstall their superfluous mail/news scanner which affords no more protection then their on-access (real-time) scanner. Until then, you using Avast in its default config that appends their spam onto your posts means your posts are spam. |

Do you want links, or the actual pages? "Save As" saves the actual pages. To create a link, the most straightforward way is: with your mouse, grab the tiny icon in the location bar, just to the left of the URL, and drag it to your desktop. -- Stan Brown, Oak Road Systems, Tompkins County, New York, USA http://OakRoadSystems.com Shikata ga nai... |
