Default installing XP...

-----Original Message-----
Hi. Recently I purchased a new computer, intending to

load
on Windows Xp for the first time onto it. But i also took
the Hard Drive from my old computer and put it into the
new computer, (the old computer having Windows 98 as its
operating system)....Now, if I install XP onto the new
computer fully, then will all the files on my hard drive
be erased?
If you could write to my
and please tell me, i would greatly appreciate it.
Thankyou.
.

I also recently upgraded my PC. I was advised not to
install XP over 98 because of possible imcompatability
with some of the softwares. There is an XP Compatability
Advisor which you can copy of the Web. My advice is to
copy your critical files from your existing HD. Either
fdisk your existing drive or better yet get a new HD. It
will save you a lot of headache as I find out from time to
time that some of my 98 softwares are incompatible with
the XP. Good luck. I agree do not write your e-mail in the
forum.

???????????? "better yet get a new HD" ????????????????
Dude, if you don't have a clue....don't touch the keyboard.

You CAN quite simply "upgrade" the 98. Run the compatibility
wizard......... more than likely the only thing you'll need updated
drivers for are modem/printer (maybe nothing). Updates can 90% of the
time, be found on the manufactures site. CD burning software should
also be reinstalled after an upgrade.

As far as software....... ALMOST anything that can be run under 98 can
be run under XP. Most that can't also offer upgrades. Except for a
few older games.... XP runs ALL the programs I had under 98.

YES you can upgrade......... BUT a clean install is better. All you
have to do is let the windows disc format your drive during
installation.

Don't let the clueless scare you............
