Remove the HDD and install it into another NTFS based computer, as a primary slave or as a secondary slave or master. Run fully updated antivirus against it and then put it back into your computer. Boot from the CD and try a repair re-installation. |

Have removed the HDD and installed it into my childrens computer and scanned it; no virus detected. Have reinstalled it into my computer but the same fault occurs - it will not select windows to boot from, and will not boot from the cd-rom. Any ideas? |

Have reinstalled it into my computer but the same fault occurs - it will not select windows to boot from, and will not boot from the cd-rom. Any ideas? Yes. It *must* be able to boot from the CD-Rom. This is a low level "before Windows even thinks about booting any part of itself whatsoever" option available in BIOS. Is it even trying to boot from the CD-Drive before it goes into the Recovery Console? Remember, we can not see your monitor so it helps if we don't have to guess about the very exact sequence of events that lead up to you ending up in the Recovery Console. Go into BIOS and temporarily set it to boot from the CD-Rom drive (or set it to be the 1st device to check to boot from). You might wish to set BIOS back to the way it was, later. Be carefull to not change anything else in BIOS. If you don't know how to get into your BIOS, check out this site: http://www.numonics.com/support/bios.htm (just one of many informative sites, I picked it at random) Also, try your keyboard on another computer, just to rule out that it is malfunctioning. It is possible that the laser has died on the CD-Rom drive, or its electronics (or its flat ribbon cable) is the problem. If your computer normally gives one short beep upon a power-up, then is it now giving a different kind of beep or a pattern of long and short beeps? |
