Default W7 / ALiveNF6P-VSTA motherboard compatibility ?

Hi all ...again :-)

I recently bought two copies of W7 Home Premium from ebuyer.com, one is for
my Aunt who I've just realised has an Asrock AliveNF6P-VSTA motherboard in
her PC.
....realised that when I went along there to pop in 4x1gb Geil PC2-6400
modules ....'cause going from memory I thought she had a AliveNF7 with 4
slots, and her NF6P only has 2 ddr2 slots ! :-(

....AND after rummaging on the Asrock website, it appears that they have not
produced W7 motherboard drivers, ...VISTA were the last drivers for the NF6P

....so, am I going to get away with stuffing W7 in there, ...on her ASROCK
AliveNF6P-VSTA board ?

any advice gratefully accepted.

regards, Richard

I could be wrong but strong chance is that if there is drivers for vista
then it should work in 7.. My current board was designed for xp and as
far as I know there were no drivers for 7 yet I have been happily
running 7 for years and Vista before that.

Nothing to lose by experimenting. Give it a try. Do not activate Win7
until everything is set up satisfactorily.

I was able to use Vista drivers for a scanner on a 7 install without any
problems. Obviously, the OS will warn you that the drivers were not
written explicitly for the operating system you're using but there
shouldn't be an issue anyway as the base system is generally identical.

64 bit 6150SE

http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_...bit_15.49.html

Windows Vista/Win7 64-bit Driver Versions:

* Ethernet Driver (v73.14+) WHQL
* Network Management Tools (v73.16) "Sedona"
* SATAIDE Driver (v11.1.0.33) WHQL
* SATARAID Driver (v11.1.0.33) WHQL
* RAIDTOOL Application (v11.1.0.30)
* SMBUS Driver (v4.74) WHQL
* SMU Driver (v1.71) WHQL
* GPU Driver (v190.38) WHQL
* Physx (v9.09.0428)
* Away Mode Driver (v6.0.6000.114) WHQL
* Installer (v7.57)

I got the link from a forums.geforce.com article, and did a site
search on nvidia.com to try to locate the latest for the chipset.
The 15.49 was the best I could do in an external search. I don't
know what to enter in the NVidia driver page, to do better.

From the Asrock AliveNF6P manual...

NVIDIAGeForce 6150SE / nForce 430
2 x DDRII DIMM slots
Max. capacity: 4GB --- 2x2GB for max capacity

HTH,
Paul
