To PC Guru Paul !!!
I think, no, I KNOW, ...I want to know who is this Paul person is, who has
:- for countless ages.... .....provided SUPERB, RELEVANT, 1st class, ...responses to virtually every hardware and software question launched in this, and quite a few other NG's across ages past ! ....now I know that I'm getting old, ....and despite the fact that I've forgotten more than I'll ever know about tweaking up MSDOS and Windows GUI's since the earliest, (and quite useless MS Windows Gui's such as Windows 3.1 that was pretty to look at but, hardly any software houses had yet produced anything for it), MS Windows version, .....and despite the fact that, (given enough time), one can EVENTUALLY hunt down the answer to ones hardware and/or software problems using Google, (and ignoring the point that often, for speed, I bung a question into a NG because I either cannot remember how to do it, or cannot remember how to solve a problem that I know I've solved in the past, and have not enough time to hunt it down yet again on the web, .... .....I want to know how Paul does it so FAST ! ? ! ?? ....here's thinking that a little flattery will get me everwhere in the future ! regards, Richard |

It's like I'm getting buttered up for a tough question of some sort :-) I find the newsgroups are filled with people who can answer your questions. As for why I'm in the house today, it's too damn cold to go outside. I may be able to escape tomorrow though. A couple of days ago, I walked to the grocery store, and it was -26C. I even saw a kook a couple weeks ago, riding a *bicycle* at -22C. It takes all kinds. You need the balls of a brass monkey to do something like that :-) As a student in school, riding a bicycle year round, I've had hypothermia from riding at just -10C. I'd keel over after riding one block, at -22C. The wind chill on a bicycle is ferocious. Paul |

Paul Yep, you're pretty good (and concise) with answers on IT topics Paul, but just to bring you back to earth a bit, your English language skills may need a bit of honing. The 'brass monkey' is no animal; in the days of the old man o' war sailing ships the cannon balls were stored on a frame (made of brass) called a 'monkey', and in cold weather that frame would shrink, and some of the cannon ball would pop off. hence, 'freeze the balls off a brass monkey'. |

Geez, I can't even begin to imagine what -26C feels like. (but it sounds good from where I'm sitting) :-) Graham We live in a time of extremes, that's for sure. Right now, it's +6C in Whitehorse Yukon, and -4C in Louisiana near the Gulf of Mexico, with light snow. How's that for an inversion. I can't imagine what +44C would be like, in the outdoors. Maybe 35C would be a hot day here in the summer. The worst part here, is getting high humidity at the same time. I don't mind the 35C, as long as it isn't 90% humidity at the same time. I can remember summers here, where it wasn't really that hot, but all of August was "like an armpit" in terms of humidity. And I don't handle humidity all that well. I sweat buckets, when other people are only slightly damp. Not good. I have to drag several liters of water to sporting events. Paul |
