Default USB Keyboard not recognized by system during startup

I had the same problem and purchase a cheap PS2/serial
mouse ($13.00) and keyboard ($21.00). This solved my
problem and I now have backups, if I need them.

Hi,
I use a Compaq Presario 5080US that came with a USB
keyboard. The problem is, the keyboard is not recognized
by the computer until Windows (XP) is loaded. This

causes
me a number of problems, such as that if I'm booting up
and I'm prompted to use "safe mode" I can't respond
without a keyboard.

Is there a way to let the computer know that I have a

USB
keyboard as soon as push the power button on?

Please respond to my e-mail, because I'll have trouble
finding your replay.
Thanks, I appreciate your help, folks!
