Default Two Interesting Problems

1. My monitor no longer shuts down after I set it to do
so in power management settings. This I assume is also
true of hard disk shutdown, which I have set for 2 hours.

2. I get an annoying top to bottom screen wipe between
any two pages at websites, and even opening and closing
documents in Word.

These problems began after I downloaded MS's newest
security update, about a week or so ago. Running XP
Professional, use MacAfee anti-virus and ad-aware
religiously.

Suggestions? Are these problems related?

Thanks,
