Default SP2 and ''Access Denied''

I have seen this discussed, but the solutions I saw have not helped. I'm
trying to install SP2 of my Windows XP Home machine. SP1 shows to be
installed already. I downloaded SP2. The install went smoothly for 20
minutes or so and then said "Access Denied." My only choice was "OK." SP2
then uninstalled. I tried that twice, same result. Then I got an SP2 CD from
Microsoft. Same thing happened. Where am I going wrong?

Hey Falcon and Jupiter Jones -- thanks a million for your help! The
'regedit' sequences solved the problem. Much appreciated.
