No G.U.I. for ntbackup utility
Hi Everyone,
I run Win XP Pro Sp3 . Today I attempted to perform a "system slate" data back up , with the built in Windows backup tool. I had did so before with no problem. After going to "system tools" , and clicking on the "backup" icon , I waited but the backup screen never appeared on my desktop. But when I checked "Task Manager", it showed that the ntbackup.exe process was running , but ntbackup's G.U.I. , never appeared on my computer screen. I was UN-successful several times in getting ntbackup to start to run a back up. I haven't had this problem before , either with ntbackup , or any other program. Any ideas on how I can get ntbackup to run? -- your friend, Larry |

Nope . Run commands won't get the GUI to appear.
I tried everything listed here : http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?&query=backup+won't+start&lang=en&cr=U S&guid=&sloc=en-us&dg=microsoft.public.windowsxp.general&p=1&tid=0 90830c0-61d0-49e9-868a-16b775e121e8&mid=64ca16f1-ea49-4ec1-9f01-5a5e0ab3ed96 . Expect trying to run Backup in safemode. I'm curious about one thing. I 've been to BlackViper's website : http://www.blackviper.com/ , and disabled some Window's processes. Now I'm wondering if the ntbackup.exe is dependent on any of the processes I've disabled ? -- your friend, Larry "nass" wrote: "leoliver" wrote: Hi Everyone, I run Win XP Pro Sp3 . Ntbackup sent the message "Looking for backup devices". I don't remember seeing this message before, but I waited and waited, and waited some more. Eventually, the Gui showed up, and I went on to perform the backup. Perhaps the OP quit too soon. Jim |
