Partial XP home product key

I have replaced my HDD after it was damaged, my product key on the bottom of
my laptop is unreadable on 3 of the characters, i have all the other
characters, is there anyway of getting the missing bits from Microsoft

No. Not from Microsoft. You would need to try the computer manufacturer for that if
you have the complete full documentation. Sticker on the bottom of the laptop or
desktop signifies an OEM manufacture

You would need to contact the computer manufacturer, and/or the retail
company where you purchased the computer. Didn't you write down the product
key on your sales receipt for future reference?

If you can figure out a way to hook the old drive back up and access it, you
may be able to use Belarc Advisor to find the product key encoded in the
registry.

If you can figure out a way to hook the old drive back up and access it,
you may be able to use Belarc Advisor to find the product key encoded in
the registry.

The only problem with obtaining the license key from an OEM installed
operating system using Belarc or keyfinder is that it finds the master key
that is issued by Microsoft for cloning all the hard drives for that make
and model of computer. It will not normally reinstall the operating system
from the XP install disk that may have been provided by the manufacturer.
To use that disk the OP needs the key from the label on the computer (that
has in this case been damaged.) The OP will need to contact the
manufacturer for a replacement key. Of course they will say the computer is
out of warranty and so sorry! Of course if the OP had a set of recovery
disks they do not normally need a key to reinstall the OS to factory
delivered specs.

Hi "LVTravel",

The key indicated by Belarc, and the key on the side of my Dell are the
same. Mine came with an XP with SP3 Compact Disc. There is no key on the
Compact Disc itself. Hopefully, the OP has found a solution by now.
