Windows 10 doesn't need antivirus software!? Really!?
In article , Cy Burnot
writes "How can I fix Avast Antivirus if it stops working after a Windows 10 upgrade? "Only Avast Antivirus 2015 R2 and R3 are compatible with Windows 10. You may need to reinstall the Avast software to restore your protection. Please see Installing Avast Antivirus 2015 on Windows 10 for detailed steps. "Users with Premium Avast Antivirus products may need to insert the license again after re-installing the software." As a Barclays bank customer I get a three unit licence for Kaspersky Internet Security, never had a problem with it and it just carried on working after the 10 upgrade. Note that that is spelled "Microsoft Security Essentials." And since Windows 8, it is called Windows Defender, Thanks for the explanation. In my PC farm I have a Win7 machine running "Microsoft Security Essentials." I set up sharing on C: drive on my Win10 machine. Thus I can run MSE over Ethernet. What you say means, to do so, is a redundant. |

Perce The Win7 to Win10 Upgrade process, has no intention of precisely preserving user programs. Any program with low level hooks (a DLL that gives direct access to hardware), those things can be removed. I would be shocked, if any modern AV program, could survive such an attack. And, looks like the same happens with major Windows 10 updates, like the November update Older OS installation procedures, use Upgrade Advisor, and give a list of programs not considered to be compatible. That would give a user a chance to say, remove their AV program, use the special AV cleanup EXE from the AV supplier site. That's the polite way to do an upgrade. Then after the Upgrade is completed, a fresh copy of the AV can be installed by the user. Amen to that! |

You wouldn't be getting real time protection over the network and scanning would probably be less effective too since it'd be easier for nasty stuff to hide itself. Boot sector scan etc. wouldn't be possible over the network. -- Brian Gregory (in the UK). To email me please remove all the letter vee from my email address. |
