Printer Problem

So I don't know what I am talking about. Can you put a alcohol wet tissue next to the the print head, on the print side and the cartridge side to loosen the ink? There is another possibility. There are some printers, that if you leave them powered, they do one cleaning cycle per day. And after six months or so, they can pump a cartridge dry, just from cleaning. I always disconnect mine, so there are no hijinks possible. It does enough cleaning and fiddling, when you do go to print. Paul |

Since this is the second HP Officejet 7000 that I have bought and the first one didn't last very long before it failed in much the same way, I don't plan to buy another HP printer. You can thank Carly Fiorina for decreeing that these printers be made as cheap as possible to bolster HPs bottom line. Any suggestions as to what make and model would be the most reliable printer for a home office that doesn't do much printing. That is, I sometimes let the printer sit idle for several hours or even a few days if we are on vacation or otherwise not using our computers. Gordon |

Gordon It depends greatly on your needs, If you want or need Photo quality an inkjet color printer is indicated, If you don't do photos I would suggest a color Laser printer. Best to read the reviews of a printer before buying one. I wish I had read the reviews before buying this HP 8610. It does poorly on photos. When I stopped doing Photos some 8 years ago I purchase an Okidata c5150n color Laser printer and have never looked back. It was expensive, some $700.00 CDN. I do not use OEM toner carts as they are too expensive, I buy new third party carts from Toner Parts.ca for one quarter of that price, a set lasts me about two years. Now color lasers have come down in price drastically and there are many brands to choose from, I can't recommend a brand as I have not used any but my own OKI. Again with inkjets I don't use them anymore so can't recommend one. HTH. Regards, Rene |

Does anyone here have any suggestions? Thanks. Gordon I've tried to remove the print head assembly and see if I could clean up the dried ink that may be blocking the black printing process but I can't figure out how to, or if I can remove the entire print head assembly. There is a leaver on the right edge but when I lift this leaver it doesn't release anything. I suppose I should go to Comp USA and see if they have an extensive manual for this printer. The little setup manual that came with the computer doesn't provide much information on things like this. Gordon |

I know that sounds like a smart answer but my printer stopped printing and I spent the better part of two days monkeying with it, checking drivers, rebooting my computer, checking ink levels, etc. Then I realized it had not been turned off in weeks and I had not power cycled it during all my troubleshooting. So I turned it off. It wouldn't shut down. Then I unplugged it and plugged it back in. Then turned it back on. It worked perfectly after that. |

Maybe some light washing with alcohol (no rubbing that might damage the contacts) will wash away whatever is causing the problem.
