Is that version compatible with XP? You may need an older version.

Additionally, this may be related.

FireFox will download but I cannot use Firefox to get to the download
folder. Clicking on the Folder icon does nothing. I use Everything to
find the file download and it is found in this folder.:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Downloads

Only one user. User is Administrator and no password needed.

Attempting to install Malwarebytes I get the language selector and then
the error.

I did the
set TEMP=C:\Windows\temp
set TMP=C:\Windows\tmp

but this errors too
cd "%USERPROFILE%\Downloads"

at cmd
More %USERPROFILE%
says
Cannot access file C:\Documents

Based on my setup, is not the cmd window already Administrator level ?
Or do I have to do more there ?

This is Win XP Pro.

Thank you for your help.

Whatever kind of file that is, it isn't brand new.

It could be trial, it could be free, it could be premium,
I have no way of knowing what happens when you run that.

A typical MBAM, I think there's some sort of ceremony
where it downloads fresh definitions at some point.

PC fixed.

I went to the malwarebytes website and found a fixit tool.
It worked !

It made the latest version run just fine.

Unfortunately it did not tell me what it did so I cannot report on that.

Their support tool has a "MB-Clean" function.

Is that what you used ?

https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-2387

The Support Tool will apparently offer to re-install
after the Clean phase is complete.

While you're at it, you might want to go to Options,
on the general tab, in Firefox set it to ask where to put
downloads. Then you can choose something sensible
like Desktop or another drive and you won't have to
go searching for the downloaded file.

I'm pretty sure that's not an access permissions problem, but something
getting hung up on the space before "and". You can usually get round
this sort of thing by "enclosing things in quotes", but when you're
using %parameters%, I'm not sure where you use them. Another
circumvention is to use "docume~1" rather than "Documents and Settings",
though it's not foolproof - you really need a few "dir /x"s in the
appropriate directories to make _sure_ you've got the right 8.3 names.
(You'd need similar for "My Documents", too.)

Wish that would work.
Firefox is default browser.
Firefox latest and last version for Win XP.

It is set for Folder = Download but after a download clicking on the
folder icon does nothing. If I go the the Download folder I find the
file just downloaded. So it does download OK.

Set it to ask every time and download to a unique folder, download a
file, and then clicking on the folder icon does nothing. Still have to
use Everything to find most recent files.

Drives me crazy.

What can it be ?
