Default My Windows 10 Pro is now 10586.17

When I downloaded and installed the Threshold 2 version of
Windows 10 Pro, it was version 1511/10586.14. When I checked
Winver this morning, it was 1511/10586.17.

It appears that the 10586.XX portion will change over time.

Does Micro$oft need to use minor number?

I must have got it before you did. I had 10586.3 when I first installed
it. Its 10586.17 now.

Four cumulative updates have been released since the major o/s
replacement-upgrade Win10 1511/10.10586.0 Th2 was released.
- Each update changed the XX (3, 11, 14, 17)

the .17 upgrade failed three times here, same error as show, and the
dism command fixed it

The numbering system is irrelevant! They are UPDATEs, differences!

The numbering is relevant. As a perceptive person,
those number should tell you that Microsoft is
changing how it delivers software.

And only time will tell how they (ab)use this new feature.

It's possible you will no longer have control of
individual security updates, with them instead
being replaced by cumulative updates with that number.
