I've just tried. Unfortunately, neither my old Goldwave nor my old
WinAmp did, so I doubt my standalone player would. I just tried with
another .aac file I have, and old GoldWave still didn't like it, but old
WinAmp did, so there are obviously more than one kind of .aac file.

I've used Foobar with good results converting from one format to another.
You can try that one.

Losslessly?

The web is a blank slate; you can't design technology that is 'good'. You can't
design paper that you can only write good things on. There are no good or evil

No, sorry, I haven't tried anything other than MP3.

But I have. If you are talking about using Foobar2000 to convert from
one lossless format to another, say Apple Lossless to FLAC, it works
perfectly. I think I had to acquire the ALAC codec from elsewhere, but
you can set FB2K to use it or most other external codecs.

Thanks for the clarification. I usually convert to MP3s
because of their use in my van's deck. I haven't used
lossless formats at all yet. One of these days..
