Agent takes care of morons like that with a single click.

Thunderbird doesn't?

Yes, I need more input to perfect the filter. I'm not up to installing
agent. Its not worth that much to succeed on this.

Default AVG 8.0

Jerry, I am certainly having a bad experience since installing the commercial
version of AVG 8.0. It wiped out my 7.0 MSN Messenger and I had to download
and install the new windows live messenger. Now I am having trouble opening
links to this newsgroup after receiving an e-mail in my MSN Premisum, plus I
am having trouble opening power point program and WMV file. I did not have
this trouble before installing AVG 8.0. I think it is a crappy program and I
wish I would have kept AVG 7.0 until they got all the bugs out of the newer
program.

mae, thanks for your information. For some strange reasons after I was
notified in my MSN email that my question had been answered I was able to
click on it and return to you answer in this forum. I have not been able to
do that before after installing AVG 8.0. Now if I was just able to open the
power point file being sent to me as well as the WMV files I would be back in
business like when I had the AVG 7.5 version. I do not have any problems
opening the power point files I had stored on my computer prior to the
installation of 8.0. This would indicate to me that something is happening to
the files coming into my MSN Email but I have not found anything yet that
would cause it. I do have a question in to the AVG technical team but it
takes them so long to answer. The last time it took them over a week to get
back to me. I was hoping that some one on this forum may had this problem
before and found a cure. Thanks mae, I will consider what you have advised.
By the way I did not install the AVG tool bar.

And do this:
If you wish to install AVG 8.0 Free Edition without the LinkScanner

I am still using 7.5, just some suggestions I have found to do before I
install v.8.

Thanks for sharing that information with me Marx. I will definately consider
what you have said. I have never had any problem with the 7.5 AVG which I had
for two years.

After speaking with many people on Security Forums , reading online
professionial and user reviews incl: www.VirusBulletin and
av-comparatives.org then installing and testing a few myself, including
AVG8, I uninstalled AVG and now have gone to Avira Antivir. It is easier, it
is a simple straight forward AV with no extras to bog down your system and
has real tech support on it's online forum. Best of all, it's free. I dont
work for them btw, just recommending them to everyone I know.

Thanks marx. I will give it consideration. I have the commercial version of
AVG Antivirus which cost me $42.00. Hopefully they will find, and remove some
of the bugs out of it. At least for the last two times now, I have been able
to click on this link in my MSN e-mail and come back to this answer. For some
unknown reason I could not do that before. If I can figure out a way to open
the WMV files I receive I will be ok. Since I also upgraded to windows live
messenger from MSN Messenger I am beginning to wonderif that may be my
problem. The only thing that is strange is I do not have any problems opening
WMV or power point files that I had saved on my computer before installing
AVG. and windows live messenger so I don't really know which one to blame.
Although I do know that AVG did screw up my MSN Messenger and that is the
only reason I changed to windows live messenger.

Why bother with either one of those programs? You don't need them..

If you have a recurring problem do not forget you can configure your AVG
8. Advanced Setting. PUP Exceptions.

Gerry, I noticed the pup within the AVG interface, but I did not think that
would pertain to small programs like WMV and power point that came in with my
MSN e-mail messages. I was thinking that was for the programs that was stored
in other areas of the computer away from the e-mail program, but I could be
wrong about that. I will definately check this out. It seems that some of the
power point programs will open and others won't and that is what puzzles me.
Thanks.

You should not get programmes in attachments. You should only be seeing
files that may be opened if you have the relevant programme to open the
file.

Software that can play WMV files include Windows Media Player, The
KMPlayer, PowerDVD, RealPlayer, MPlayer, VLC Media Player, Zoom Player
and Media Player Classic.

You need Powerpoint for a Powerpoint file.

Gerry, WMP is where I open my wmv files which comes from folks sending me
forwards in their e-mail. I like to be able to get those as some are quite
cute. I have the power point reader 2003 and my .pps files opens in this
program. The last two .pps files and the last .wmv file seemed to open fine.
Maybe I have been getting corrupted wmv and power point files and I have been
blaming it on AVG 8.0. I guess this could possibly be a conincidence, I hope
so. I will see what happens in the future. Thank again Gerry.

Default AVG 8.0

Hi, I am not sure whether I am in the right section or not but hope someone
can help me. I have run AVG Free for ages but last night the update failed
saying that there was a missing .bin file. This happened after I had
installed the latest XP updates - could this be the problem? I have
uninstalled and reinstalled the AVG Free programme but the response is the
same. Since I have no idea what a .bin file is and whether the Microsoft
update caused the problem or whether it is an AVG problem I hope someone can
help me with this. Many thanks

Exactly the same happened to my wife's computer. She panicked and stopped
using it. I was not at home, so when I returned she asked me to check it out

I could not see anything obvious, but I did notice a request to restart the
PC. So I did this and AVG came good.

If this had not have worked, I would have removed AVG, downloaded it again
and reinstalled it. I can't figure out why this action by you did not
correct the problem.

Perhaps the .bin file (and the restart message) was from Microsoft Update. I
wonder whether it would help to check out the Microsoft Update site
