Default Router Port Configuration

Hello there Jonathan,

The ports you have listed are they the start and end
ports?

I have gone through the Audio Tuning Wizard and still no
change.

Thanks for the help,
Roger Beckermeyer

Greetings Roger,

If it is truly UPnP compliant, then the ports will

automatically open and forward
themselves -- no configuration is necessary.

However, if you're interested, the ports required for

voice/video are 5004 through 65535 UDP,
1503 TCP for Whiteboard/Application Sharing and 3389 for

Remote Assistance.

Since it's just voice/video that isn't functioning, you

may just need to go through the Audio
(and Video) Tuning Wizard again (open the main Messenger

window, click the Tools menu, then
Audio Tuning Wizard). Also -- is this "other computer"

on the local network?

Someone please help,

I have a netgear router/firewall that is UPnP

compliant.
I just purchased it a couple days ago (as an upgrade to
one I already had). I want to know which port(s) need

to
be open for me to use Windows Messenger and a

webcamera.
I can get Whiteboard and Remote Assistance to connect

to
the other computer, just can get the webcamera or the
voice only to work.

PLEASE help.

Thanks in advance,
Roger Beckermeyer

Roger

What model Netgear are you using?
I have the RP614 model (latest firmware update from Netgear web site)
Messenger 4.7 will not allow me to use audio
Messenger 5.0 will
I am still having problems receiving files

Default Router Port Configuration

Hi Spike,

Due to the way Messenger receives files, any problem receiving files is most likely on the
side of the person sending (when you receive, you connect to your contact and download the
file). This is either due to your contact sending either having a firewall that isn't allow
Messenger to connect to the correct ports, or not using an UPnP enabled router and MSN
Messenger 5.
