Windows Messenger 5.0 and Adobe Reader problems
For some reason now, everytime I open Adobe Reader or any document associated with it, the Windows Messenger 5.0 installation pops up and tries to install, but it fails at the end because of an error, then the cycle repeats, thus causing freeze. The only way to get out of this is to end task of the Acrobat Reader. Now, I've searched some previous posts and downloaded the Windows Install Clean-Up Utility, but Windows Messenger does not show up on the list. Then I searched again for Jonathan Kay's website which supposedly showed how to "delete Windows Messenger" manually by typing in the run prompt: RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove. However, this did not work either because it caused an error about unregistering an OCX 16422. Please help, anyone! It just started doing this recently too. Weird! Here's a recent update: Now I just messed around with some options and tried deleting Messenger folders/files and removing it (both MSN and Windows Messenger), then tried reinstalling both, but that only caused even more errors. Now, when I click the actual icons, the installation Window just pops up (just like Adobe Reader does), and this seems to be for both Messengers, too! Very weird and strange. The thing is that the installation never completes either, it gives me a weird registry error when trying to actually install 5.0. Like, when Adobe Reader opens, the 5.0 installation Window popsup, then I wait and hope it installs and everything is done with, but it doesn't happen. Instead, at the end of the installation, it fails giving me something like this: An error occured during the installation of an assembly component: {874793FC-5F43-496A-8FE7-18C4DB9B143D HRESULT: -2147024864} (something like that) According to the events log, some errors/warnings include: PRODUCT: WINDOWS MESSENGER 5.0 -- ERROR 1935.
