Bcupdate2 utility is the solution...
No-Brainer, should equal solved. What is wrong with this picture, Dave?
-- All the Best, Kelly Microsoft-MVP Windows® XP 2004 Windows MVP "Winny" Award Troubleshooting Windows XP http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm "DaveyD" wrote in message ... Hey Eric, I feel your pain: the solution is posted to KB320397 on the MS Knowledge Base as you mention, and it is a no-brainer. This is a simple utility/easy fix, and it should be available to us for download (since it has been a known bug since at least Win2k). For some reason, Microsoft has chosen to not allow anyone to download the fix for this known bug in the OS without incurring cost or "incidents" for support (this would be the decent thing to do since it fixes a design flaw). This is especially irritating to me since I have built my own computer (and have the OEM version). Microsoft Support wants to send me to the OEM vendor (me) for support -LOL! MS should just post the file for us to download as they have done with other fixes (PLEASE). If anyone has been luck enough to obtain this "holy grail," please let Eric and I know where we can get a copy of the file. I will keep checking back on this forum with great hope as I am tired of booting with the CD. Good luck, Dave |

Yeah, thanks, I know what "OEM" means. My attempted point was that you
save money for a reason. You don't pay for ground shipping and then complain the package hasn't arrived the next day. Kelly wrote: The letters "OEM" also have a meaning .... OEM (original equipment manufacturer) refers to manufacturers who resell other company's products under their own name. While OEM is similar to (and often confused with) component integration, or value added reselling, OEM specifically refers to one company re-labeling a product to sell it under their own brand name. The concept of OEM has been misunderstood in recent years, possibly due to the fact that the single most popular use of the term is in versions of Microsoft Windows provided to hardware vendors. In these cases, Windows is not actually relabeled to match the manufacturer's brand, but rather, continues to maintain its own identity as "Microsoft Windows".
