Trying to install program ends up at the command prompt
Windows8.1x64
Have been trying to install Firefox in Windows8.1x64. Each time Windows open the command prompt with the following "SUCCESS": The file (or folder): "CX:\Users\Brenda|AppData\Local\temp\7zSED53.tmp\s etup.exe" now owned by the Administrators group. Processed file: /C:\Users\Brenda\AppData\Local\temp\7zSED53.tmp\set up.exe Sucessfully processed 1 file;Failed processing 0 files. Press any key to enter.... If I press a key the command prompt closes as well as the install. I have tried installing other programs with success. It is only happening with Firefox. I did try different downloads of Firefox. Any solution that you may know of? -- Caver1 |

No dialogue boxes. Thanks This almost sounds like a "limited user" account ? Many here, when they install the OS, there is a single named account (like "Paul"), and it belongs to the Administrator Group. UAC dialog boxes, then warn when the user is about to do something requiring Administrator group permissions. But no password need be entered, and a mouse click is enough to dismiss the dialog and carry out the installation. I don't know how many people here, will be using a Limited User account for their usage. I've never tried that here. Maybe it does require entering a password. When you install software on the modern Windows, the files in the Program Files folder are owned by TrustedInstaller account. So right there, that would require a means of changing accounts, and belonging to Administrator Group would help greatly in such a case. Maybe the Firefox installer was able to unpack itself in %temp% or whatever, but cannot do any more of the steps after that. Almost like your attempt to offer a password, isn't "sticking" through the entire installation. Paul |
