Windows 8 is like Windows Vista in this one respect:

It works perfectly for those who will RTFM and is disliked by
those who will not or can not learn.

It is also disliked by those of us who can and do RTFM and learn
but think that a touch-oriented interface force-fed to those of us
using non-touch desktops and laptops is the wrong UI approach.

If you did actually RTFM you'd know the touch-oriented interface is
optional, I don't have a touch screen monitor so I don't use it. Easy
for those who really did RTFM.

What does that have to do with RTFM? There are dozens of newsgroups
that will tell you how to use Win8, dozens of user forums, dozens of
websites. If you chose to NOT learn that's your choice.

XBOX ONE is irrelevant to the discussion. You'll want to look up
"irrelevant."

From what I see, it's MS and their fanboys are the ones who will
not or can not learn, and need to be kicked in the ass and punched
in the face, and then said, I got it.

Loser!

You seem to have overdosed on stupid pills this morning, as well as the
obnoxious pills. You'll want to look up "obnoxious."

Dell provided this for customers.
It's not exactly what you'd want, and
would be in the "better than nothing" category.

It does suggest though, that someone recognized a need for a book of some sort.

The poster claimed that if one does RTFM, the person will know
everything about win8..... people cannot "RTFM" if they didn't get
a manual.

The "metro ui" is not optional. It is required as the start menu &
you can get a an app that will run on that ui & uses the "swipe"
to do whatever like the metro-filemanager available on the win8 app
store.

So, how do you get rid of the touch-centric start page and prevent the
new touch-centric and dumbed-down MS apps from being used by default?
RTFM doesn't tell you how. You have to use registry edits and 3rd party
tools, fighting MS all the way - that's not what I call an OS that
"works perfectly" that only requires you to "RTFM".

Relevant in the sense that it's been rejected as bad as Windows 8.

They DID get a manual, it's spread all over the internet in webpages,
forums and newsgroups. That's how manuals are these days. That's how
people learned earlier versions of Windows, that's how people learn
Linux, that's how people learn Android, etc. etc. etc.

Again, those who chose not to learn can only blame themselves.

If you'd RTFM you'd know, that's how I learned.

Hint, I think it was this newsgroup.

Another hint, leaving the start page alone, try hiting the Windows Key
+ x see what happens....

For a nit picker, the internet is NOT micro$oft; if anything, all the
newsgroups & web are 3rd party people & have NO OFFICIAL info about
win8. Internet + newsgroups + web NOT EQUAL microsoft's "manual".

Sorry but it does. The internet includes Microsoft's it's not
"micro$oft", that only identifies you as too immature to be posting
here) official forums as well as other sources.

Got any other misinformation you'd like to post?

You haven't read the blurb in the microsoft's community site now
renamed to "answers.microsoft.com" whereby it is stated repeatedly
that it is a place where volunteers try to answer questions; it doesn't
matter if some moderators may be microsoft employees but mostly some
are part of the msvp club. Even if the microsoft website sat to look
at the community forum to find answers to why microsoft drivers don't
work, doesn't mean that it is a part of the microsoft organization.

According to your way of "reasoning", then any misleading or incorrect
info on the answers.microsoft.com forums & all statements stated here
is part of the RTFM which means I'm right as my assertation is part of
the RTFM. Anyone saying windows 8 is a piece of crap here is also
correct since that statement is also part of the RTFM.

Your claiming that I posted misinformation is wrong as with YOUR
reasoning, if I mistated, the statements are also part of the "RTFM"
and part of the official microsoft's manual.

Probably I should have stated micro**** which would still be
understandable to many & become part of the ms manual. The use of
micro$oft is part of the "RTFM" as it has be used many times.

Don't worry, "XS11E" identifies him/herself as part of the Internet
Improvement Project (so 1990s) so naturally has strange ideas.

Printed manuals are expensive so not supplied with Windows these
days, however there are various printed books available to take
their place (although not cheap the relevant book is usually well
worth it particularly to clueless users).
