Why would you expect anything different? The URL pretty clearly shows

Do you think that Microsoft *does* provide Microsoft Office as a download?

The URL pointed to a download of a Microsoft Office product installer.
What I think one way or another is irrelevant. What is said online, in

It's not *just* another forum!

It is the 'mouthpiece' of Microsoft!

All my previous queries at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us have led

Do you dispute this?

What is relevant is that the download exists.

Does it now?!! Point to the relevant URL for the download, please.

Yes, I do, but I can't find any documentation that explains why. Maybe

Is that the right one?

Can you use that PE file to load Microsoft Office on to your computer?

No, but it has a bunch of CAB files' names listed and a setup.exe some
DLLs and some INIs.

If not, what else do you need?

I don't know, it doesn't seem to work. Maybe it is corrupted or
something, it took a while to download. I tried to execute it in
Sandboxie and only get a message that it is not a valid Win32
executable.

Is that right?

Do you think otherwise?

"*MS no longer downloads it online*".

*That is a FACT* :-)

All checked and vetted by the likes of PABear - so it *must* be true!

AFAIK, one cannot download MS Office and then simply activate it
with
a 'key'. Do you think one can?

Like you, I have never claimed to be a guru.

True - but you are fairly knowledgeable! ;-)

Is what Dustin has now said correct - in *your* opinion?

I've never tried it. My Vista machine had a trial preinstalled -
and I
never used it. I got 'viewers' installed for reading the filetypes I
need to look at.

I 'assume' that there's no reason for it not to be possible. Why
would
it care about anything but the key (and perhaps the installer
filename).

I'm downloading it now, I'll get back to you.

What I got was a PE file:
MD5:7215097204E61A3C512C55E826182B57
Size:77594624

Please post the link from which you effected the download.

http://download.microsoft.com/downlo.../OfficeSTD.exe

Is that the right one?

I have no idea! How and where did you find the URL, FTR?

Can you use that PE file to load Microsoft Office on to your computer?

No, but it has a bunch of CAB files' names listed and a setup.exe some
DLLs and some INIs.

I downloaded them to my Mac for a looksee!

If not, what else do you need?

I don't know, it doesn't seem to work. Maybe it is corrupted or
something, it took a while to download. I tried to execute it in
Sandboxie and only get a message that it is not a valid Win32 executable.

You have no doubt considered that it's possibly not bona fide?

Perhaps you should investigate this a little deeper - or send it to
Dustin and see if *he* can make it work.

I'm off to my bed now! 'nite! :-)
