[OT] Why you should use windows 8

Sure, you can modify that with *third* *party* *tools*, but Joe User uses what's put in front of him and /might/ change the wallpaper. The fact that it can be tamed by third party tools means it's easily enough done, and should have been done by MSFT. For tablets and touchscreen laptops/desktops, Modern/Metro might have been a viable option, but it should have been just that, an *option*. Because of the absence of that option, I chose Linux Mint. It's obvious what people want. Fifty percent of people using windows use Windows 7, and twenty five percent use XP. 18% use Windows 8. The Windows 8 percentage would be smaller, but Microsoft is Forcing people to change. |

Oh my oh my oh my, we don't want to find out anything about the devices we use, do we? It's a question of degree. If you buy a new car, then yes, you need to learn how to use the newer, fancier radio, and how the wiper controls differ from the old model, and things of that nature. But the basic operating components -- accelerator pedal, brake pedal, gearshift, etc. -- should all still work the same. Pardon my testiness, but I'm getting kinda fried by complaints from people who haven't a clue about to make their machines behave the way they want. LOL. You should try getting people up to speed with a Linux desktop. -- Mark Warner MEPIS Linux Registered Linux User #415318 ....lose .inhibitions when replying |

That's your view. We disagree. I agree with Mark. Feel free to have whatever opinion you want. Microsoft didn't 'confuse countless people' they dumped on their loyal desktop users. *DUMPED* as in **** bucketloads over them. Their arrogance is astonishing and so is yours pal. I'm not 'confused' at all. So let's clear up any confusion. *Desktop users want the option of having a start menu*. Do you seriously think corporate clients want to rely on a third party tool? Larf. I actually agree with much of what you say in the above paragraph (but not with your rudeness). Yes, they should have the option, and no, they shouldn't have to rely on a third-party tool. However, as far as I'm concerned, it's easy to get around what Microsoft did that it doesn't bother me much at all. |

HTH The easiest way to get a modern version of the old desktop is to go to the taskbar in the Desktop interface, right Click, Properties, Navigation and check "when I sign in or close app ...................." This will cause the machine to boot to the desktop and you do not have to mess with the Metro icons. All of the function or the old Start Menu are available by right clicking on the MS Icon on the left side of the Desktop taskbar. The documents are available by right clicking on the program icon for programs pin to the taskbar. |

The functions available from the Windows Menu are very useful though. |

Pardon my testiness, but I'm getting kinda fried by complaints from people who haven't a clue about to make their machines behave the way they want. You don't have to have those tiles "cluttering up your screen". a) You can click on the Desktop tile to get there; b) You can boot directly into the desktop; c) You can Delete the tiles you don't want; d) You can use Classic Shell or Start8 to get your familiar desktop back; e) You add ModernMix to Start8, and the "apps" will behave like regular programs (which in fact they are). Have a good day, Exactly. That's one of the first things I did when I installed Win8.1. Some folk just don't want to find out about some things and expect them to work straight of of the box. If they don't then they start to complain etc. I wonder if they do that with a dvd recorder or something similar? |
