Can I put SSD in my laptop?
Per Stormin' Norman:
People who wouldn't dream of carrying a weapon are simply people who have never needed one, yet. I agree with that 100% - and count myself among the fortunate. Actually, there was a time - a long time ago - when my best friend's practice of carrying a loaded .44 magnum in his motorcycle's gas-tank bag started to sound reasonable to me. But my reaction was to stop riding my bike instead of to start carrying. Likewise, when people started discovering bodies in the trunks of cars and the people down the street had a break-in with them in the house (after having their phone wires cut) we elected to move to another location rather than arm ourselves. Another time, another place, I might be carrying and have a couple of shotguns strategically placed around the house... But we were fortunate enough to have the means and situation to move. -- Pete Cresswell |

Can I put SSD in my laptop?
Per Alek:
I've seen it claimed that an inexperienced person with a gun is likely to have it taken away and used on him. Most of us would hesitate before pulling the trigger. OTOH, as I read the news, there are lots of people who are just waiting for an excuse to shoot someone. My late brother, who did his tour in Vietnam as a CID agent (with a price on his head), who wrote an unpublished book on gun ownership, who won at least one combat shooting contest, and who worked his way through business school as a private detective... said that his opinion was that if somebody hassles you on the street you had better have the gun in your hand, safety off, finger on the trigger for it to do you any good. Anything else, and the chances of the attacker taking it from you were greater than the chances of it doing you any good. Just one person's opinion... but I think he had a pretty good base of experience to form it from. -- Pete Cresswell |

Per Char Jackson:
You offered an opinion* and others disagreed with it. What's the problem? For me, who did not offer the opinion, it wasn't so much a problem as something missing. Argument by assertion is uninteresting. OTOH, if somebody poses an argument and the lists reasons why... then it becomes interesting. -- Pete Cresswell |

So far, no one is offering a valid counter point, just opinions and insults. When did this become the Saul Alinsky forum? An opinion from me, just as it was from you. Nothing more from either of us. No insult was intended, and my apologies if you took it that way. |

So, would you opt to run away from someone who is raping your Mother, Wife, Daughters or grandchildren or would you opt to help and defend them? WHOA!!! I didn't say what I would do!!! You claimed that human instinct is to survive and protect. I pointed out -- perhaps too tersely for you -- that when faced with danger, human instinct is either fight or flight. Not sure that human instinct is to protect. What if you couldn't run away, what would do then? Fight, of course! Would you fight with anything but a firearm to satisfy your ideology? What?? Would it be ok to club the attackers to death but not ok to shoot them? Would you prefer to allow your loved ones to be brutalized rather than use a firearm? What if you were confronted by superior forces, e.g. three large, young intruders? Would you just bed over and invite them to have their way with you in addition to your family, not knowing if they would kill you all when their sadistic urges were satisfied? I think you had too much coffee this morning! |

My inclination is not to run away from bullies, thugs and criminals. Once you start running, it seems like you never stop. Naaaah... you just have to find the right place to stop... -) -- Pete Cresswell |

I am with Norman on this one. The police can not help you, all they can do is catch and prosecute the criminal after they find the raped and tortured body of the victim. I prefer to have the ability to protect myself. If you think 911 will save you, good luck with that! -- JT |

Can I put SSD in my laptop?
Per Justin Tyme:
If you think 911 will save you, good luck with that! I can rant for several pages my half-dozen personal experiences with 911: one in Philadelphia, the rest in Chester County PA.... none of them good, all of them conspicuously bad.... not just a little bad... a *lot* bad. I suppose there are some good outcomes to calling 911, but I have not seen any of them. Something happens to me, I'll take my chances with getting to the ER myself or begging somebody to drive me there... even a taxicab. Been there, done that too.... -- Pete Cresswell |

Not too far from you in NJ, nothing but good experiences with both police and EMT responses to 911 calls. |
