You bought a Canon printer right? [g] No, I avoid them almost as much as HP. It's an Epson. Well my Canon does pretty much the same thing. Turn it on and print and it takes 3 minutes to print page 1. Page 2 is seconds, etc. Not sure about the black and white and the use of color inks. Pretty sure my driver, or the user interface, remembers settings. I do know the one I'm interested in, duplex, is usually always set. I get the XL tanks and they seem to have a good amount of ink. But they're inkjets, and consumer products, they aren't meant for high production. I forgot to mention the ****ing annoying animations they insist on putting into dialog boxes. I don't need a cartoon to tell me paper is going into the printer, I can ****ing see it for myself! Another thing mine does is warn me with a dialog box that the printer is "not ready to print" - i.e. I've turned it off as I'm finished with it! And when the ink runs out mid-page, and I replace the ink, it then prints the other half of that page on another sheet! Holy **** these designers are dumbasses. |

Nope, for every print job, you get the chance to correctly set the properties of the print operation and the properties of the printer. The software/printer can not help it if *you* fsck things up. And cancelling a job is almost impossible, you have to turn off the printer, tell the computer to cancel it, then for some reason wait 5 minutes?! more user error. No, clearly telling a device to stop is very simple. Why can't it just stop? the printer queue leaves it in there for a minute, or it goes away, yet the printer prints more of it the next day! It won't stop right away, because print jobs are 'buffered' (spooled) and most printers themselves are also buffered. When the printer is switched off, the print job is canceled *and* deleted and the printer switched back on, the printer will *not* "print more of it the next day". ink use is whatever the user chooses, Really? So I can just insert a sensible sized tank into my inkjet can I? i was referring to this: they try to use colour ink for a black and white image and take 5 times longer that is false. It isn't. I converted a photo to greyscale, and the printer used colour ink. Because you didn't set the print *properties* to print in grayscale. The print(er software) will just do wat you *tell* it to do, which was to print in colour. Unless you bought the expensive model, your printer (software) doesn't come with a crystal ball. I converted a photo to greyscale, and the printer used colour ink. user error. converting a photo to greyscale doesn't tell the printer not to use colour ink. it's still a colour image, just with neutral tones. telling the printer it's monochrome is what tells the printer not to use colour, however, some inkjet printers will use a trivial amount of colour in some cases for two reasons, one to avoid clogs and two, for richer and more neutral blacks. it doesn't slow anything down, so it doesn't matter. there is no delay in printing, and paper jams are *very* rare, usually the fault of improperly loading the tray. Bull****. They'd just squirt air. Done that plenty times when the printer thinks there's ink but there isn't. bull**** right back. https://smallbusiness.chron.com/can-...damage-print-h eads-58731.html In thermal inkjet printers, the ink in the cartridge serves two functions. First and most obviously, it provides the pigmentation for printed imagery. Secondly, it acts as a coolant for the printer head. Thermal inkjet printer heads contain a small heating element that vaporizes a tiny amount of ink to create a steam bubble inside the nozzle and produce the force to push a droplet through the nozzle onto the paper. With no ink to act as a coolant, the element can begin to burn out in the head and cause permanent damage that often necessitates replacing the entire print head. Epson printers use a piezoelectric vacuum system. Instead of a heating element, the piezoelectric crystal is located in the nozzle. When a current is applied to the crystal, it vibrates and creates a momentary gap for the ink to drip into the nozzle before the seal is closed once more. When the cartridge is empty and the printer is run, air is sucked past the crystal, breaking the vacuum seal. As a result, even installing a fresh cartridge will lead to poor results -- or none at all until the vacuum is restored by forcing the air out of the head. there is still a little ink left in an 'empty' cartridge as a safety net. More like to cost you extra money. nope. it avoids costly damage. Whatever it is that makes the printer stop and SAY it's run out, why can't it do that BETWEEN pages? that's exactly what it does. it won't print if the ink level is too low and starts warning the user when it's approaching that point. Or if not, just continue where it left off on the same page when you replace the cartridge? the printheads are unloaded to swap ink cartridges, which would make it next to impossible to realign them to an existing print job. |

They don't tend to do that. And it's irrelevant anyway, my point is the printer stops mid page when it THINKS the ink has run out. It stops when a normal cartridge would have. use standard ink cartridges and that will not happen. in other words, user error. No, it does the same with normal cartridges. What on earth makes you think a continuous ink system could confuse it? The printer "knows" there is 13ml in a cartridge. It stops when that "runs out". because if it does, the heads will burn out, which is a very costly repair. Bull****. They'd just squirt air. Everything is a proportion of black an no CMY, so it should only use black ink. telling the printer it's monochrome is what tells the printer not to use colour, however, some inkjet printers will use a trivial amount of colour in some cases for two reasons, one to avoid clogs and two, for richer and more neutral blacks. it doesn't slow anything down, so it doesn't matter. Try it. simply put the ream into the printer, or just a portion if the tray can't hold a full ream. You really can't follow this argument can you? I'm talking about the ability of the printer to take one page off the top of the pile, and by comparison the ability of a person to do the same (indicating that paper is difficult to seperate). At no point have I referred to a user having to load one page. |
