Default WIndows10 Home: No internet connection

Trying to get my Windows10 (Home) HP Probook 452 back onto the internet.
(Used to work, but in a frantic effort to stop updates butting in I did
something that stopped it, but failed to mke a note of it...)

Found some evidence of what might be preventing internet access.
According to the diagnostic file wlan-report-2018-01-24.html' 'DHCP'
is not requested, but I cannot find the option to do so.

Whereas on Windows7, if I use WINDOWSkey + R and run 'ncpa.cpl' I get
taken into the Network Connections folder (where it shows the Local
Area Connection sub-folder) - the same command on Windows10 shows
that the Network Connections older is *empty*!

Windows10 does find the router's SSID and does connect (shows
'Disconnect' option), but labels the connection 'Limited' (whever that
signifies) and browser says 'No internet connection'.
The Ethernet cable is plugged in but the system shows no sign of a
connection.

(The continued absence of an internet connection prevents
finding/installing of a driver for whichever wired mouse I try....)

Would v.much appreciate clues as to how to e.g. populate the Network
Connections folder to help obtain internet connectton).

First make sure it's just the wireless connection. Is the LAN port in
your notebook working?

Both ethernet & WiFi work normally on non-Windows10 systems on same

Did you install the right driver for the network adapters? Did you
forget to turn on networking functions in Win 10?

Did you do an Win 10 upgrade or a clean install?

The Windows10 was pre-installed on tha laptop, and the network did
work until Updates were thwarted.

Did you forget to turn on networking functions in Win 10?

Something has turned them off, and - as I said - I can't find a way
of turning them back on again...

Time to give your HP vendor a call. Maybe you should take the notebook
to the shop that sold it.

Question is: How to get the right subfiles in there?!

Cordialement,

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network Connections

Do any of your connections have a status of Disabled? If so, right click
on that connection and select Enabled.

If that's not it, post some screenshots somewhere and provide links here
in the newsgroup, No one knows what you did, so it's hard to tell you
how to undo it.

On Windows10 Control Panel there are 8 facilities.

One if them is "Network and Internet", which has 3 lines:

1. Connect to the internet
2. View network status and tasks
3. Choose homegroup & sharing options.

If I select 'Connect to the internet' I see a window saying:

"Windows did not detect any networking hardware"!
(Whereas Device Manager/Network adapters shows:
- Realtek PCIe GBE Family Cotroller
- Realtek RTL8723BE 802.11 bgn WiFi adapters
(which I earlier uninstalled and re-installed a suggested
elsewhere)

If I select 'View network status and tasks' it shows a window:

"View your basic network information and set up connections"
followed by the word "Unknown"

If I select homegroup and sharng options it just shows
"his computer cannot connect to a homegroup"

Do any of your connections have a status of Disabled?

No such info seen

OK, I see you are set to categories in control panel.
In the upper right corner set VIEW BY T large icon,
then you will have all the required individual choices.

did you disable the Ethernet Adaptor? If so then Enable it by going to:

Network & Internet Settings and clicking on the Ethernet text on the
left and Change Adaptor Options on the right as shown in this pictu

https://i.imgur.com/rE233yg.png https://i.imgur.com/rE233yg.png

When you click on the "Change Adaptor Options you get something like this:

https://i.imgur.com/Cwp0P9B.png https://i.imgur.com/Cwp0P9B.png

In my second picture I have the text "Disable" but you might have
"Enable" and so you need to click on it. You get this option when you
RIGHT-CLICK on the Ethernet Network Icon.

If you have a WIFI then the process is the same except you choose Wifi
in the first picture. There is a short-cut method to enable/disable in
Wifi but this will solve the problem if this is indeed the problem in
your case. If nothing works then you can always pay somebody like me to
fix it for you. It costs only £100 GBP to resolve this. A very price
to pay for this wonderful service.

If the other suggestions , inc Good Guy's (which is usually just a putdown)
don't work, try using a System Restore Point before it happened, if you have
one.
That should reset what you did.
