Default ICS Problems

hell and thanks in advance. I have two computers both
with winxp pro. 1 is desktop and other laptop. My
desktop connects to the internet. I dial-up modem and nic
card in desktop and nic card in laptop. i think I
configured everthing correclty to communicate computet ot
computer. I can ping both computers with no problems. I
can see eac computers on the Network and browse
folders/files in both. The problem I'm having is I cannot
connect through the internet using my laptop using ICS. I
have both comps with the same DEFAULT GATEWAY & SUBNET
MASK. The desktop has an IP Address of 198.168.0.1 and
the same for the GATEWAY. The laptop has it's own IP
Address. When I open Internet explorer it should try to
dialup and connect to the internet through the desktop,
but it does not. I do notice when I dialup from the
desktop, an icon comes on the laptop and says its
connected to the internet, but when I open internet
explorer it still cannot open the site and connect.
HELP !! Aby advance will be greatfull

Hmmmm - I thought the client (Laptop) needed to have its NIC address set to
"Obtain IP Address Automatically" ?

Hello PJAY,
I will try that when I get home today and see if it
works. Do you know of any articles that might help me
find my problems if this doesnt work?

Thanks KENG

Try this article by Microsoft:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...working/learnm
ore/ics.mspx
If you cannot copy and paste the address then you must
type it in.

Suggest that you take a look at
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article04-107. If that applies, get
yourself a copy of DrTCP from http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp to save you
manually editing the registry.

Don't be deterred by thinking that the annoyances.org article only applies
to PPPoE. It worked for me on a PPP dial-up.
