Default print spooler

This website has got to be the most un-user friendly when
trying to get help!!! I don't know if this is even the
correct venue to ask this question, but, this is my last
try before I throw XP out of the window!

I have an HP 5650 printer hooked into my DLink print
server, that is connected to my PC via a network cable.
It has been running just fine for over a year. Now, I get
winword.exe error when I try print, and XP won't even let
me install another printer. I also get a message that the
print spooler is not running....

HELP! ANYONE?

Can I watch for the crash?

Open a command prompt

Type "net start spooler" then hit the enter key (without the quotes.)

Try to print

Report back.
