Not really. Some router upstream is using that number to route packets
to your machine. If you unilaterally give yourself a different IP
address, you won't get any packets. So you can change your IP address
only by working with your router, or contacting your ISP (assuming
they own the router you're connected to.)

Assuming that you have a DSL/cable router...

You can't change the router's IP address, only the ISP can do that. If you
change it then you will loose your Internet connection. However, the
router that you computer is connected to hands out "Fake" IP addresses to
computers that are connected to it. You can change the IP address that the
router gives you but, the Subnet Mask and gateway should probably be the
same in order for the configuration to work

Ya sure it is possible to change both your static or dynamic network ip address of your system ..Here i list out the steps to be followed to change the ip address .They are
1.Go to start---run---type cmd
2.Type ipconfig /release
3.Type ipconfig /renew
This will automatically change your ip address if it is dynamic ip .Else if you have static ip then you must have to contact your ISP to change it.After changing your ip visit Ip-Details.com to find your present network ip address ...
