Default Hardware update wizard fails

My Hardware update wizard fails to find the right driver and it never
reaches its end. I must close it with the Task Manager.
It started with problems to read a pendrive and then I uninstalled the USB's
and restarted the PC. Upon startup There were these icons "?" and trying to
update driver with the vendor CD doesn't help.

Can someone help pleas?

Thanks
Ziko

usually pendrives or usb drives don't require any additional drivers in XP. Are you running at least SP1?

Besides, I don't even stack the pnedrive to the plug - I can't see the usb
device and the wizard is running endless.
