Default windows.exe uses 100% CPU

If I attach to lotus notes (internet version) from home
to work, after awhile things slow down. When I check the
task manager the "windows.exe" is using almost 100% of
the CPU. I have to shut-down "windows.exe" to release
the machine. How can I prevent this from happening??
