Default Unknown Contacts

Can anyone tell me if it is possible at all to get messages from unknown
people without first having to allow them? I have a friend who insists they
are occasionally contacted by different unknown people through Windows
Messenger and without first having to allow them.

Some sites have links to Yahoo Messenger through which you can contact an
online user. Are there equivalents for Windows/MSN Messenger?

Many thanks for any help.

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:

I'm using the beta though the method should be the same...

Tools Options Privacy tick the box to ONLY allow people on your list
to contact you or see you online.

Is it WINDOWS Messenger or the "messenger service" SPAM? If that's the case
the update at the Microsoft or Windows update sites.
