Start menu recent items disappearing

using XP SP 3 and with no changes recently I have noticed that recent apps
that normally appear below my pinned items are disappearing. If I reboot
they reappear then during the day they are gone again, reboot they come back
and so on.

This started a few days ago...

Anyone else having this happen?
