Unmountable_Boot_Volume
Win XP Pro.
Had a power outage Computer will now boot into Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Command Prompt. Any attempt to boot normally or Safe Mode With Networking results in BSOD: Unmountable_Boot_Volume 0X000000ED (0X82354900, 0XC000009C, 0X00000000, 0X00000000) This error apparently indicates either UDMA issues or file system corruption. I disabled UDMA in BIOS, to no effect, which evidently leaves just file system corruption. Is it any help to me that it boots to Safe Mode, or is chckdsk /r from CD boot my only option? |

To fix the Unmountable Boot Volume error: Boot with XP cd into Recovery Console. Do chkdsk /p If there are errors, do chkdsk /r After Chkdsk is finished in either case, go back into Recovery Console and do fixboot, and then reboot (hopefully) into Windows. I had gone ahead with chkdsk /r, and all seemed fine when done. It took a
couple of hours, though. Thank you. "Malke" wrote: Brian wrote: Win XP Pro. Had a power outage Computer will now boot into Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
