You can download the drivers and related software from Dell. In fact, it's
better to do this because you'll get the latest ones this way.

Default Drivers & Utilities Resource cd broken help

Hey Malke.....obviously you are the only one who can help me. Everything is
loaded great on the computer, however, I did go to Dell & download all the
drivers I needed. So then I upgraded to Windows XP Pro (which my boss bought
a legal copy of) and the only thing in device manager that still has a "?"
next to is the "ethernet controller" ???? I went onto the Dell website & d/l
everything possible for this computer using the "tag id" & even went on the
forum, which I am a member of, and I am getting squat from them. Is there
anything else you could possibly help me out with. Windows XP Pro with Svc
Pack 3. Audio, Video is great but cant seem to get this ethernet problem
figured out. Thanks again & God Bless

I certainly wouldn't say that I'm the only one who can help you, but you
apparently still need to install the ethernet adapter. Dell often offers
more than one driver so if you downloaded, for example, a Realtek driver
and you have an Intel adapter this will be wrong. You may think you've
downloaded/installed everything but obviously you haven't.

It looks like this is what OP needs:

http://support.dell.com/support/down...5&fileid=87106

And here are the Installation Instructions:

Download

1. Click Download Now, to download the file.

2. When the File Download window appears, click Save (Windows XP users
will click Save) this program to disk and click OK. The Save In: window
appears.

3. From the Save In: field, click the down arrow then click to select
Desktop and click Save. The file will download to your desktop.

4. If the Download Complete window appears, click Close. The file icon
appears on your desktop.

Install

1. Double-click the new icon on the desktop. For example labeled
R12345.EXE.

2. The Self-Extracting window appears and prompts you to extract or
unzip to C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R12345.EXE. (Example path). Write down this
path so the executable (Example - Setup.exe) file can be found later.

3. The Self-Extractor window appears.

4. Click OK.

5. After completing the file extraction, if the Self-Extractor window is
still open, close it.

6. Click the Start button and then click Run.

7. Type C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R12345 in the Open textbox and then click OK.

8. Follow the on-screen installation instructions.

Look on the back of the case to see if the RJ45 plug is in the area of
the mainboard or if it is down below in the PCI card area. Quite
often the onboard is disabled and an aftermarket ethernet card is
installed.
