If you have some time to waste rather than watch yet another
mind-numbing stupid commercial on television, you can see OldDuke's
(that's one word "OldDuke", not the 2 words shown by gardenerstouch)
mind-numbing posts at:

http://groups.google.com/group/micro...6d3e7b7d2 7f1

Apparently he has self-nominated himself as the "what is on-topic here"
netcop for this newsgroup. Not because he occasionally notes that a
topic doesn't belong in this group but because that is all he ever says
in his few posts totalling all of 27 starting all of 3 weeks ago (oh
yeah, he's the expert, for sure, uh huh).

OldDuke is too stupid and/or too lazy to even notice there is no non-OS
specific microsoft.public.hardware newsgroup (carried by Microsoft's own
NNTP server). I'm not sure troll quite suffices to describe OldDuke's
posts. Most trolls have a bit more intelligence. Boring is more
accurate of his posts. He's a broken record: click, "off-topic for this
newsgroup", click, "off-topic this newsgroup", click, "off-topic",
click, "off-topic", ad nauseum.

Like watching commercial television/cable programming, he's just like
the advertisement noise that you have to deal with. However, it is easy
to ignore his off-topic "ads". Even you can killfile in WLM.

As an aside;
It's a really good in OE when you "block" someone, you get the choice of
removing ALL their post form the NG :-)
....quite satisfying when they all vanish !

OH, and I've been around a lot longer than three weeks. I've been

Just be careful whether or not you really want to killfile someone just
to get rid of the noise. Since you won't see their posts, they get the
last say when they reply to your post and others will see it. Killfile
the ones that are habitual and well known to be killfiled by many other
regulars (newbies will still see their posts, though). Rather than
block their posts, you may want to instead colorize them so your eyes
normally slide by their posts, like making them silver on white. That
way, you don't lose the hierarchy of a [sub]thread but aren't likely to
read their post (unless someone else quotes them). OldDuke is less than
a month old and his posts are boringly repetitive rather than troll-like
.... so far.

OldDuke is not a troll in the accepted usenet use of the term. A troll is
someone who post something with the sole purpose of creating an extended
thread. OldDuke doesn't do that as he posts exactly the same post over and
over again. He is just a plain old usenet nazi.

I studied psychology, and can tell you that OldDuke is the sort of person
who seethes with rage that someone has dared to post something that falls
outside of *his* concept of what is permissible (you can see it in his
posts). As has been previously noted by others and myself, this behaviour
is an absolute text book case of a type of mental illness. There has been
some discussion as to whether OldDuke is a child or a grown up. OldDuke
himself claims to be in his 40's, but if that is true, he certainly
demonstrates the mental age of someone aged around 12 (give or take a couple
of years). He certainly seems to believe that he is the (self appointed)
arbiter of what is permissible. He is completely unable to admit that he is
wrong as he keeps insisting that he is right and it is *everyone else* who
is wrong.
